World Costume in Action
The World Costume in Action Exhibition showcases costume sketches, production photographs, and authentic costumes created by artists from over 30 countries. This exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the world of theatre costume design, providing inspiration for both theatre professionals and the general public.
National Exhibition
The National Exhibition showcases Romania's most valuable scenographic creations, featuring sketches, models, costumes, and set elements. This year, visitors will have a unique opportunity to see the iconic rhinoceros and the immense stage curtain from the legendary production of "Faust", directed by Silviu Purcărete. Also on display are the giant hands from "Pădurea Spânzuraților", directed by Radu Afrim, and a costume exhibition by Oana Păunescu, showcasing costumes worn by famous actors in international film productions shot in Romania. Among the hundreds of works, visitors will also get an up-close look at part of the set from "Moromeții 3", set to be released in November.
The exhibition spans all aspects of scenography, including video art, lighting, and sound, providing insight into Romania's rich heritage of theatrical and film design.
Rising Voices Exhibition
Based on an international open call, the Rising Voices Exhibition showcases the works of young, emerging artists in the field of scenography, giving visitors the unique opportunity to discover some of the most innovative and bold designs from the next generation of scenographers. The exhibition highlights fresh perspectives and creative approaches that push the boundaries of stage design.This is the only competitive section of the Biennale.
Young Design
In keeping with the event's tradition, scenography education remains one of its fundamental pillars. The Students Exhibition will showcase works by students from Romania’s three specialized universities: UNArte, UNATC, and UAT Târgu-Mureș. This exhibition aims to foster dialogue between students and professors from different institutions, while also creating opportunities for young artists to connect with established professionals, discuss expectations, explore opportunities, and exchange ideas about the future of scenography.
Animation and Children’s Theatre Exhibition
The Animation and Children’s Theatre Exhibition celebrates the importance of puppet and children’s theatre in Romania. Featuring puppets and props from more than 15 Animation and Children’s Theatres across the country, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to explore the craftsmanship and creativity that bring these beloved performances to life. Visitors will gain insight into the artistry behind these productions, which continue to inspire and captivate younger audiences, fostering a connection to theatre that endures through generations.
Crafting the Future Exhibition
The Crafting the Future – Hands on Scenography exhibition showcases creations developed during a seven-day workshop, using recycled materials and sustainable approaches. This project is organized by Goethe-Institut București, Institutul Francez, OISTAT Romania, and the Bucharest Scenography Biennale, with funding from the Franco-German Cultural Fund. Guided by experienced mentors Stefanie Romacker (Germany), Corina Grămoșteanu (Romania), Isabelle Szymaszek (France), and Adrian Damian (Romania), participants explored techniques in mask-making, costume, props, and set design, focusing on eco-friendly practices.
The performative exhibition, directed by Dan Vasile, will feature these innovative creations and offer a glimpse into the future of sustainable stage design.
Theatre Architecture Exhibition
The Theatre Architecture Exhibition is dedicated to showcasing the architectural evolution of Romanian theatres, featuring recent renovation projects such as the Ion Creangă Theatre, Sala 2 of the National Theatre Timișoara, and the National Theatre in Iași, among many others. The exhibition aims to facilitate dialogue between authorities, managers, architects, technology consultants, and artists, exploring best practices in theatre renovation, modernization, and construction.
