Rhinoceros and Faust’s Stage Curtain Take Over Amzei Square for the Bucharest Scenography Biennale

The Bucharest Scenography Biennale 2024 is set to captivate audiences with its National Scenography Exhibition, showcasing iconic stage elements in Amzei Square. Among the highlights is the rhinoceros from Faust, directed by Silviu Purcărete, and the immense stage curtain that framed the unforgettable production. Both pieces will be on display exclusively during the Biennale, offering a rare glimpse behind the stage.

As part of the National Scenography Exhibition, two striking elements from the acclaimed Faust production—an imposing rhinoceros and the massive stage curtain—will dominate Amzei Square throughout the Bucharest Scenography Biennale (October 18-27, 2024). Created by renowned scenographer Helmut Stürmer, whose work on Faust earned him the UNITER Award for Best Scenography in 2008, these elements are not just set pieces but symbols of Romanian theatre.

These set pieces are part of the National Scenography Exhibition, which celebrates the very best of Romanian scenographic design. The exhibition will feature a wide array of creative works, including sketches, photographs, models, costumes, and props from some of Romania’s most famous productions. The aim is to highlight the talent and craftsmanship behind the scenes, offering a comprehensive view of the country's theatrical artistry.

Visitors to the Bucharest Scenography Biennale will not only experience these impressive displays in Amzei Square but also have the opportunity to attend numerous workshops, exhibitions, and panels, all designed to connect Romanian scenographers with the international community.

With only five days left until the event, excitement is building for what promises to be a groundbreaking celebration of performance design. Amzei Square, the National Theatre Bucharest, and several other key venues will become stages themselves, showcasing the creative heart of Romanian scenography.
